Stretch Out My Narrow Mouth

Stretch out my narrow mouth,
Make it wide, as if a bowl,
To catch your rain, pure love,
Enlivening my soul.

My lips are sewn together,
My throat, it’s tight and dry,
My stomach is sore, it aches,
My heart not knowing why.

The river has spoken loudly,
Its banks filled brim to brim,
Your Spirit has whispered softly,
Shown light on what’s been dim,

Saying, Worthy are you now
And always of my love,
It comes to you like a torrent,
A never-ending flood.

I will cut through every thread,
And cool your arid mouth,
Soothe your longing belly,
Open up, I’ll show you how.

Swallow this sweet water,
Laced with life, wet with fire,
It’s yours for the drinking,
You are mine, my sweet child.

Psalm 81:10

I am the Lord your God,
who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.
